Last Monday Tennis Canada announced that the Canadian Davis Cup tie vs Spain will be held at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at UBC Feb 1st – 3rd 2013. Last February the Canada-France tie also took place there and it was a successful event that sold out within minutes. If you’re interested in tickets, they go on sale Dec 3rd. Seating capacity will be about 6 400 each day.
Imagine Raonic and Nadal battling every point
These are exciting times for tennis in Canada. Although the #1 ranked Spanish team will be a formidable opponent whether Nadal appears or not, it shouldn’t be discounted how the Canadian crowd will energise the Canadian team, currently ranked 12th. The 2012 team consisted of Daniel Nestor, Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil, and Frank Dancevic and the team to face Spain will be chosen at a future point in time by Team Captain Martin Laurendeau.

This is a great opportunity once again for the UBC Community to see quality tennis. I can’t wait. Hope to see you there!
